How to check a company name before formation

The free company-name check compares a proposed name with current names of active entities in the public register. It shows a text-similarity percentage and explains the main reason for every match.

  1. Enter the proposed name. You do not need to include a legal-form suffix.
  2. Review the closest matches. Focus on the percentage, pronunciation and the distinctive part of the name.
  3. Complete a manual review. Check trademarks and consult a notary about a borderline name before filing.

Company-name check FAQ

How can I tell whether a company name is available?

Search the proposed name, review the closest companies and check trademarks as well. No strong collision is a useful signal, not a legal guarantee of registration.

What does the text-similarity percentage mean?

The 0–100 percentage expresses character overlap after removing legal forms, accents, punctuation and common CZ/EU markers. It is not the probability that a court will register the name.

At what percentage does name similarity become risky?

For quick orientation, we highlight 90–100% as very high text similarity and 85–89% as a manual-review band. The overall impression, pronunciation and distinctive elements still matter.

Who decides whether a company name is accepted?

This tool provides only a preliminary check. Registration is decided by the registry court; a notary can review a borderline name before filing.
